Enjoy autumn with these seasonal craft beers from some of Denver and Colorado's best breweries.
1. Cosecha (Harvest) Imperial Chili Pepper Beer — Raíces Brewing Co.
This Latino-owned brewpub spices up their autumn seasonal, adding locally grown and roasted hash and poblano peppers, along with pineapple fruit puree, to create his distinctive beer with a hint of head. Drop into Raíces Brewing Co. to enjoy one on the only riverside patio in Denver.
2. The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest Lager — Avery Brewing Company
A super-charged, Colorado version of a traditional Oktoberfest brew, Avery’s Kaiser offers a deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral and pungent noble hops, all combining into a beer experience like no other. Pair it with traditional Oktoberfest fare like bratwurst, sauerkraut and potato salad.
3. Autumn Ale — Breckenridge Brewery
Blending the maltiness of a German lager with the crispness of an American ale, Breckenridge’s entry into the fall beer category is a serious contender. Full-bodied, slightly sweet and positively toasty, ask for this one at the Farm House at Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton.
4. Avarice Belgian-Style Imperial Stout — River North Brewery
There’s one upside to the shorter days of fall: the plethora of dark seasonal beers on tap. And this “sinful” brew is one of the darkest! Head to River North in north Denver to try this Belgian-style imperial stout that its creators describe as “so dark no light can escape it.”
5. Oktoberfest Marzen Lager — Left Hand Brewing Company
Hoist a stein this fall to Left Hand’s Oktoberfest, a beer with plenty of malt, followed by a spicy, dry finish. Visit the O.G. location in nearby Longmont or the brewery's new tap room in RiNo — both are great spots to kick back and enjoy the fall weather.
6. Hibernation English-Style Ole Ale — Great Divide Brewing Co.
Head to Great Divide’s Tap Room in downtown Denver or their Barrel Bar in RiNo to enjoy this warming wonder. A classic English-style old ale, this brew is a robust, dry-hopped ale with a malty richness and complex hop profile. With winter just around the corner, it’s time for Hibernation.
7. Hey! Pumpkin Ale— Denver Beer Co.
A tru celebration of the season, Denver Beer Co.'s pumpkin ale has a gorgeous copper hue resulting from the bushels of real pumpkin used in the mash. With a nose full of cinnamon, nutmeg and spice, it will have you reaching for your sweater.
8. Pomegranate Smoothie — Dry Dock Brewing Co.
That's right: a pomegranate seasonal! A fruity spin on Dry Dock's Blonde Ale, this creamy concoction includes pomegranate, vanilla and lactose for a misty ale with a velvety sweetness.
9. October Skies Dunkel — Joyride Brewing Company
"Dunkel" is the German word for dark, but despite its color, Joyride's October Skies still drinks light enough to say "goodbye" to summer and "hello" to cool fall temps, with flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, fresh-baked bread and a touch of dried cherry.
10. Imperial Pumpkin Porter — Epic Brewing Co.
Epic Brewing Co.'s autumn entry is packed full of real pumpkin and warming spices. Go from big with the Imperial (it clocks in at 7.6% ABV) to even bigger with the Imperial Whiskey Barrel Aged (which tops the charts at 10.3% ABV).
