VISIT DENVER president and CEO, Richard W. Scharf, has been appointed to the 2020-2021 Board of Directors for Destinations International (DI), the world’s largest resource for official destination organizations, convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) and tourism boards. DI serves almost 6,000 destination marketing professionals and partners from nearly 600 destinations across 13 countries.
“I’m honored to be selected among such an esteemed group of leaders across the global travel industry, and I look forward to playing a role in the kind of DI initiatives that have contributed so much toward our business over the years,” said Scharf. “I’m especially proud to represent Denver at such a critical time when cities across the globe are attempting to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and adapt to its effects on travel.”
With more than three decades in the tourism industry, Scharf has been at the helm of VISIT DENVER since 2004 overseeing 15 straight years of record tourism and The Mile High City’s ascension to become one of the top destinations in the country for leisure tourism, meetings and conventions.
“Destinations International and the Destinations International Foundation are driven by the experienced volunteers serving on our boards and committees,” said Don Welsh, president and CEO of Destinations International. “We are truly grateful for the time, counsel and service these individuals dedicate to our industry and we look forward to their leadership during their time as a Board member and beyond.”
